60’s! Cigarettes…

MM Falling

In honor the premiere of the second to last season of the best show ever.

Two Weeks To Wapner…

The Season 5 premiere of the best show ever is only two weeks away. After a deprivation lasting over a year-and-a-half, the final two-weeks is worse than being five-years-old and waiting for Christmas. Seriously.

Those of you familiar with the show know that the opening credits finish with the image of figure (Don?) falling from a building.

This is Gourdo is doing a reenactment of that scene.

MM Falling

I like it.

So Close…

Draper Cool

I’m a geek of many things and I am a big geek for Mad Men. I just love the show. I drew this one a couple years ago of Gourdo as Don sitting in his Sterling Cooper office. Ah, if only I were as cool.

Still Draper Cool…

I’ve been in a kick lately of redoing some of my earlier drawings. It is both out of lack of ideas and wanting to update some of my favorites with Gourdo at the center.

My latest is to redo one from last September, I’m Draper Cool. I’m a big geek for Mad Men and Don Draper. This time, I decided to do a take on the show’s opening sequence (below). I can’t wait for season three.

Character Flaws…

I don’t watch much TV, more due to lack of time than lack of interest though there is some ambivalence there. There are two shows, though, that have me hooked, Mad Men and Californication. I’m beginning to think I am drawn to characters with flaws.

Jon Hamm

Don Draper (pic from AMC.com)

Don Draper is uber-cool but drinks too much, cheats on his wife and then there is that whole took-the-identity-of-his-dead-commanding-officer thing. But I still think he’s just cool (the metro/girl in me likes his clothes, too).

Hank Moody (pic from Showtime.com)

Then there is Hank Moody from Californication who is even more F-ed up than Don Draper. He, too, drinks too much and cheats on his baby-momma but I find him to be cool, too, in a self-hating writer sort of way.

I have assured my wife many times that it’s not because I want to start running around and sleeping with other women. Maybe it’s because they’re both creative and I envy that quality in them.

I don’t know. Weird. Just thought I would share.

Hey, There is This Cool New Show…

I know I am really late to this party (sue me) but I am officially hooked. After just three episodes, I am completely hooked on Mad Men. Three episodes in the middle of season two, to be exact, but I am definately hooked (and happy to find a suitable replacement for BSG).

I now have the incredible urge to smoke, drink scotch at noon and write ads for American Airlines, Playtex and Clearasil.

Jenny nailed it last night on our walk. I want to be Donald Draper. She’s right, I do. He is…cool. Except, I don’t want his flaws, just give me the cool, steely gaze, the “I-own-this-room” presence.

Don Draper Cool

I won’t go into the time-period being the main character, the brilliant writing, the excellent acting of the cast (Joel Murray is perfect as Freddy). It’s all been said and done before by many and better writers. I don’t need to add to that din.

But, it is cool.
