Earth Hour 2008

If you haven’t heard about it, Earth Hour is where you turn off all unnecessary appliances for one hour. 2007 was the first year for the event and was in Sydney, Australia. This year was the first for it to go global took place on Saturday from 8pm to 9pm. Our family decided it was a great idea and did our part, turning off all lights and anything that were not using, to include our laptops.

I was a little disappointed to see no one else in my neighborhood doing the same. Of course, it wasn’t too widely publicized. We didn’t hear about it until the morning of as a fleeting mention on CNN.

I saw a headline on Monday saying it do as much as hoped but it is still something that should be continued, if for no other reason than symbolic purposes. It puts the idea in your mind to be more conservation conscious.

The next Earth Hour is next year. I encourage everyone to mark their calanders and tell their friends.
