McDonald’s has decided to attack Starbuck’s by entering the gourmet coffee market by having coffee bars in its stores. One opinion says this may not be such a good idea. I tend to agree. It is not McDonald’s core offering. I do not think of McDonald’s when I think of lattes and cappucinos. My wife, though, thinks it is a good idea. She says it may attract those who are not comfortable going to Starbuck’s, Seattle’s Best or other similar coffee houses. That may be true or it may be that people who go to McDonald’s may not want the fancy, “fru fru” coffee, they want the regular McD’s coffee. I just don’t see anyone making a special trip to McDonald’s for a latte. And those of who are coffee snobs are not going to there for our latte fix. Time will tell, but I do not see this as a big success for McDonald’s. The opinion has a long list of McFailures. Pretty intersting reading.
